The amount of professional counselling sessions depends very much on your own needs. Some people feel assisted after a few sessions while others might need ongoing help. Psychologists are University trained professional who assess, diagnose and treat mental, emotional and behavioural disorders and use formal psychological tests as part of their practice. Psychologists and counsellors work in a similar way in terms of therapeutic interventions however psychologists are more likely to assist with more serious mental health illness that required long term treatment.

Professional counsellors assist individuals, families and groups explore and resolve issues or difficulties that impact on their lives. professional counsellors can work with similar clients to psychologists and use the same theory and techniques for client wellbeing and recovery. professional counsellors understand but do not diagnose mental health disorders and may refer clients with serious mental health issues and who require longer term interventions to psychologists for specific care.
